Kent District Library issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.
We are still looking for 17 adults interested in earning their high school diploma for free through our Career Online High School. This is a great opportunity to start or further your career. Graduates will earn a career certificate in one of ten high-growth, high-demand fields. Additionally, students graduate with a resume, cover letter and other tools to start or advance their career. Participants have access to library staff, an academic coach, certified instructors and technical support to help them succeed.
Tierney is one of eight students currently enrolled in the program.
"I love that the program is self-paced and I can go through it as quickly or slowly as I like without worry of deadlines," Tierney said. "I am a busy mom and it helps to be able to do the work when I have the time to sit down in a quiet area and get it done."
Tierney has eight classes left to complete before receiving her diploma. She plans to go on to college to become an early childhood education teacher or social worker.
"I find the classes very easy to comprehend and I'm successfully scoring nothing below 89 in them all," Tierney said.
Tierney received her scholarship for Career Online High School from the Friends of the Plainfield Library. If you are interested in sponsoring a scholarship student, please visit www.kdl.org/sponsor.
