KENT DISTRICT LIBRARY: Transformational Opportunity Spotlight: CASA of Kent County

Announcement

Kent District Library issued the following announcement on Sept. 27.

In this new blog series, the we will highlight a partner organization once a month. We’ll talk about the services offered, opportunities for the community to get involved, how to get connected to the organization, upcoming events and more. We encourage you to get involved in transforming our community!

Our very first Community Resources Spotlight is CASA of Kent County, a nonprofit organization with the mission of advocating for children in the foster care system in Kent County by engaging volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) as a conduit between kids and the courts.

FACT: There are over 800 kids in foster care in our county, and currently, just under 200 have volunteer CASAs working to help them.

KDL is hosting 2 info sessions to help bolster the volunteer recruitment efforts of CASA of Kent County so more kids can have a voice. KDL Community Engagement will be at the meeting to talk about the library resources available to volunteers as they spend time getting to know their kids, too. CASAs using library as a safe space to meet can also connect kids to programs and books and encourage a love of the library that can last a lifetime!

YOU CAN BECOME A CASA VOLUNTEER.

Children in foster care need caring adults who understand their needs to speak out for their best interests. With a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteer, children are more likely to adjust to change and find or return to a safe, permanent home.

Attend a CASA Info Session to learn about the role of a CASA Volunteer, the application and training process, what your time commitment might be when advocating for a child, and more.

Please spread the word to help support this crucial community resource!

KDL CASA Informational Meetings:

October 14, 6-7pm, KDL Grandville Branch

Nov 4, 6-7pm, KDL Krause Memorial Branch in Rockford.
