Rep. Afendoulis says House made 'significant strides to mending the damage' caused by budget vetoes

Budget 06

State Rep. Lynn Afendoulis (R-Grand Rapids Township) is defending recent actions taken by the House in overriding Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s veto of several budget items.

“With these votes, the House makes significant strides toward mending the damage done to Michigan’s most-vulnerable residents by the governor’s budget vetoes,” Afendoulis said on the Michigan House Republican website. “Our plan restores funding to health care and to programs to help children with autism and their families. It restores funding to help children in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. And it restores assistance students attending Michigan’s independent colleges rely on to attend school and improve their futures.”

Afendoulis said she still struggles to understand how the state ended up in such a position to start with.

“It was hard to believe the governor vetoed this funding in the first place,” she added. “But we are now a step closer to putting her manufactured budget crisis behind us and doing the right thing for Michigan taxpayers and families.”
