Kent District Library issued the following announcement on Dec. 16.

Lance Werner, Executive Director of Kent District Library, has been appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the State Historical Records Advisory Board. Werner is appointed for a term commencing January 1, 2020 and expiring December 31, 2023. He succeeds James Cameron whose term expires December 31, 2019.

The State Historical Records Advisory Board serves as a central advisory body for historical records planning and for National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)-funded projects in the state. The Board acts as a coordinating body to facilitate cooperation and communication among historical records repositories and information agencies within the state, and as a state-level review body for grant proposals that meet NHPRC grant program guidelines.

This appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

“I feel privileged to join the Board and look forward to using the skills and abilities I have garnered from my library career to serve the State of Michigan in this way,” said Werner.

Werner has been Executive Director of Kent District Library since May 2011. He previously served as Director of the Capital Area District Library in Lansing, MI and as a Library Law Specialist at the Library of Michigan. He earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado, a Juris Doctor degree from Michigan State University and a Masters of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University.
