Comstock Park Public Schools recently issued the following announcement.

Filing Procedures and Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible as a candidate for the Board of Education, an individual must be a qualified and registered voter residing in the Comstock Park Public School District.

PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATING PETITIONS

Any candidate may obtain nominating petitions from the clerks of the townships or cities of Kent County. However, all nominating petitions/affidavits of identity must be filed with the Kent County Clerk located at the Kent County Administration Building, 300 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids.

Nominating petitions must contain valid signatures of registered voters of the district. The candidate must file a minimum of 40 and up to 100 valid signatures as well as affidavits of identity. Instead of filing nominating petitions, a candidate may also choose to pay a nonrefundable filing fee of $100.

Petition circulators must be registered voters in the State of Michigan. Individual petitions may be circulated in each township and city [Alpine Township, Plainfield Township, City of Walker], which are located in the Comstock Park Public School District. Registered voters may not sign more petitions for the same office than there are persons to be elected to the office.

TIMETABLE

Tuesday, July 21, 2020 – 4:00 pm

Deadline for filing nominating petitions and affidavits of identity with Kent County Clerk.

Friday, July 24, 2020 – 4:00 pm

Deadline for candidates to withdraw nomination

Tuesday, November 5, 2020

VACANCIES

THREE 4-year terms for Board of Education seats are available; terms will begin January 1, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2024 for the positions elected.
