Kent District Library issued the following announcement on June 19.
Kent District Library is committed to the lifelong journey of anti-racism work. Taking a position and committing to anti-racism work is not a choice, it's an expectation. Each day and each encounter is an opportunity for us to grow and lift other people up. We see, value, and celebrate the uniqueness of each person. There is no place for racism within the walls of the library or the communities where we live, work and serve. There is no place anywhere for racism. When we at Kent District Library encounter racism, we are not neutral because we exist to further all people. We take action through kindness, empathy and love because confronting hate and bias with more hate and bias solves nothing. The public library will always stand as an institution of enlightenment and as a hub of the community, serving and including everyone. We do so because the differences between individuals make us a stronger society.
