The Kent County COVID Relief Subcommittee recently voted unanimously to pass a $2 million grant that will go toward the purchase of approved personal protective equipment for students and teachers when schools reopen this fall.
The expenditure will be funded by the county’s $115 million CARES Act federal grant.
The subcommittee’s approval is just the first step, with the ultimate decision to be made by the Kent County Board of Commissioners at its Aug. 27 meeting.
“As schools consider how to reopen this fall, the safety and mental health of our children are the primary concerns of every parent I know,” board of commissioners Chair and COVID Relief Subcommittee member Mandy Bolter said in a release issued by the board. “By allocating this funding, we can be part of the solution to keep our kids and teachers as safe as possible and help to bring back some normalcy in this crazy time.”
