Kent District Library issued the following announcement on Aug. 12.
Let me introduce you to Michigan eLibrary (MeL), a valuable service that allows you to check out print materials that Kent District Library doesn't own.
If you’re not finding what you need in KDL’s collection of nearly one million items, try MeL, with more than 49 million items from 440 libraries. If you want to read a book that isn't in KDL's collection, you can have it shipped from another participating MeL library and have it delivered to the KDL branch of your choice for pickup. This is a great way to get your hands on obscure or scholarly materials that KDL doesn't carry because we are more of a "popular collections" library. All you need is a KDL library card.
1.) Visit mel.org and search for a book via keyword, author or other more advanced options.
2.) When you find the book you are looking for, click "Get this from MelCat."
3.) Select KDL from the list of participating libraries, type in your library card number and select the KDL branch you want the book sent to for pickup.
4.) You’ll receive a notification when your items are ready for pickup.
5.) MeLitems can be checked out for three weeks, with one renewal option. MeL items can be returned at any KDL branch and we will send them back to the owning library.
