CITY OF CEDAR SPRINGS: The City of Cedar Springs does not "organize" outdoor trick or treating

Announcement

City of Cedar Springs issued the following announcement on Sept. 19.

The City of Cedar Springs does not "organize" outdoor trick or treating, which is an individual decision to participate by each trick-or-treater and each candy-passer-outer.  Here are some guidelines for this year's Halloween trick or treating:

1. If you choose to hand out candy, please have your porch light on, if you choose not to hand out candy please have your porch light off.

2. Downtown trick or treating and participation by downtown businesses is entirely voluntary. Each business will decide on their own if and how they might participate this year.

3. The Kent County Sheriff's Department will be on hand in the downtown to help with safe Main St. crossing from 5pm until 7pm. This is no guarantee that any businesses will be handing out candy nor that they will have candy until 7pm.

4. Like every year, trick or treaters are encouraged to wear weather appropriate clothing, not wear costume masks that inhibit their vision and to use reflective and lit-up accessories to increase their visibility to motorists.

5. This year, the City strongly encourages everybody to both socially distance themselves from people not of the same household and also wear an appropriate facemask which covers the nose and mouth to help prevent the spread of COVID19 while participating in trick or treating.  Please incorporate all appropriate COVID19 safety precautions into your Halloween activities, including non-participation by any exposed individuals or sick individuals and frequent hand-washing.

6. The City strongly encourages motorists to avoid driving during trick or treating activities and if you must drive during those times, to drive extra super-duper slowly and cautiously to avoid injuring any pedestrians.

7. Have fun and be safe!
