England: The idea of packing the U.S. Supreme Court is "nakedly political"

Trent England said "packing" the U.S. Supreme Court -- meaning adding additional members beyond the current nine -- would destroy it.

England, the Executive Director of Save Our States (an organization dedicated to saving the Electoral College), said that should the Supreme Court take that route in the future, it won't have the same credibility it has had in the past. He believes that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden won't answer the question about packing the court because he's trying to uphold his moderate image while still receiving support from the radical left.

"Joe Biden is trying to hang onto this very tenuous coalition, which includes elements of the extreme left. People who are really too far left, even for the Democratic Party," England told the host of "The Steve Gruber Show" podcast.

He said that although there's nothing in the U.S. Constitution that limits the number of Supreme Court Justices to nine, the way the Democrats have talked about changing it is "nakedly political." He said if Democrats are successful in their attempts, it would then become a back-and-forth issue every time a new party came into power in both the Senate and the White House simultaneously.

Another topic of conversation within the Democratic Party is doing away with the Electoral College.

"The Democrats actually have been pushing this strategy to hijack the Electoral College, which would have the effect of abolishing it," England told Gruber. "But they're trying to do it through the states, through this National Popular Vote Interstate Compact."

Right now taking this route might be considered unconstitutional, but England believes if Democrats are able to add more seats to the Supreme Court, they could potentially get the court to rule in favor of the popular vote in future presidential elections.

When it comes to the confirmation hearings underway for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, he said he's been impressed by the senators' "restraint." He attributes this to their understanding that they could "lose a lot politically" if they do the things they've done in past judicial confirmation hearings.

"I think Judge Barrett has done an outstanding job," England told Gruber. "I think some of these senators just expose their ignorance when they try to go toe-to-toe with her."
