City of Rockford issued the following announcement on Sept 28.
Why is the parks millage needed?
Continuing to maintain the number of parks and trails we have with our current level of resources is unattainable. The current funding situation has forced city leaders to choose between maintenance projects and improvement projects – when both are necessary. This proposed millage would both increase the level of service and maintenance for parks as well as free up general funds for road improvements.
What happens if the millage doesn’t pass? If voters do not support the millage, the City of Rockford will be forced to make further cuts to our parks and trails funding, such as delaying repairs, removing failing playground equipment, sidewalks and trails and even closing some parks.
