Scholarship money

Rockford Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov 5.

The Rockford Chamber of Commerce (RCC) wants to promote education in the local area. Each year the chamber offers area students the opportunity to vie for a scholarship to further their education, this year the RCC will award 4 – $1,500.00 scholarships. The scholarship awards may be used for public, private or community colleges, universities and specialized schools or trades programs directly following the student’s graduation from high school.

To apply for the scholarship a student must do the following:

  • Complete the RCC Scholarship Application Form.
  • A letter of reference from a high school administrator, coach, teacher, instructor, or Rockford Chamber of Commerce member. This is limited to a one page, typed double-spaced and must be signed by the referring individual.
  • A response to the essay theme:
Essay Theme: The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are two remarkable and enduring documents which gave reasons and provided the framework for our present form of society and government. They have served us well since being written by our Founding Fathers. Our country today, however, is more fragmented and divided than at any time since the Civil War. There are seemingly insurmountable issues ranging from personal civil rights, group civil rights, immigration, the economy to the political. You are about to move into the era of your life that will stamp you as part of that generation that will be looking for solutions to the nation’s problems and will be contemplating how those changes can be made. Both of those will be influenced by being a present member of the Rockford community. Question: Please discuss one problem that you see we are struggling with in society today and a potential solution to that problem using your personal Rockford Community experience to help us understand the problem and solution.

Applicants may download the application below. After completing the above, please send to: Linda Southwick, Executive Director, 17 S Monroe Street, Rockford, MI 49341, or to: execdir@rockfordmichamber.com.  Completed applications and essays must be received at the Chamber Office no later than midnight Friday, February 4, 2022.

The RCC Scholarship winners will be notified by March 4, 2022.  A certificate will be presented to the winner by a member of the Rockford Chamber of Commerce board at their high school honors convocation (if appropriate). Winner’s will also be announced at the 17th Annual Rockford Community EXPO, March 19, 2022, and will be invited to accept the award on stage.
