Odd/Even Parking in effect November 15 - April 1

Parkinglot 1000x667

Village of Sparta recently issued the following announcement.

Odd-even parking regulations begin November 15 and will be enforced on streets where odd-even parking signs are present. Please be sure you know the rules of the ordinance to avoid a ticket. The Village of Sparta appreciates your cooperation.

Current Ordinance:

“It shall be unlawful for the owner or operator of any motor vehicle to park such motor vehicle upon any of the streets within the Village between the hours 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., between the dates of November 15 and April 1 of each year unless, between such hours, the motor vehicle is parked on the evenly addressed side of the street on even dates between November 15 and April 1 or the motor vehicle is parked on the oddly addressed side of the street on odd dates between November 15 and April 1.” - Section 70-5 (d) of Sparta Village Code of Ordinances

What does that Really Mean?

  • If the calendar date is odd you need to be parked on the odd addressed side of the road. The restriction is in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Example: If it is 2:00 a.m. on November 21st your vehicle needs to be parked on the odd side of the road.
  • However, because the rule is in effect from 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. you need to make sure you are parked accordingly the night before for the next day. In the example titled "Example of Odd Parking" below (November 21st), you would want to make sure your car is parked on the odd side of the street after 6:00 p.m. on November 20th.
We have included graphics below explaining what this means visually.
