Village of Sparta recently issued the following announcement.
Please DO NOT flush sanitary wipes, feminine hygiene products, medications, trash, metals, plastic, fats, oils, and grease (FOG), chemicals, and paper products, even if labeled as "flushable," down the drain. Toilet paper, human waste, and water are the ONLY materials that should be flushed down the drain.
Flushing items that are not meant to be flushed can lead to problems in the sewer system, wastewater treatment facility, and the environment. Attempting to flush anything else can lead to expensive and wasteful blockages. Even products marketed as “flushable” can wind up clogging pipes– when in doubt, throw it out.
