City of Walker Police Department issued the following announcement on Feb 8.
PUH-LEASSSSSSE share this info. With anyone who ever communicates with other humans.
NO legitimate business will ever ask you to pay for a service, settle a debt, or "earn your identity back" by requesting you buy hundreds (or thousands) of dollars of gift cards, call them back, and then read off the card numbers or send photos of the gift card to them.
THIS IS A SCAM. EVERY TIME. PLEASE STOP FALLING FOR IT.
Gift cards are supposed to be for fun, not making payments.
Scammers will pose as friends or family members, especially if they are using social media to scam you. They will pose as "anti virus experts," stating your computer or other technology is compromised. They will call and state they are from your bank, implying you have fees that are past due. Whatever their communication is, delete the email, trash the voicemail, block the number from calling again, whatever you have to do to prevent them from trying to trick you again & again.
If you are still unsure, go to where ever the scammer claims to be from and ask for yourself, in person. Never trust an unknown phone number, as there may be a scammer on the other end!
