Open Position: Director of Public Services

The City of Rockford is accepting applications for the position of Director of Public Services.  Under the general supervision of the City Manager, the Director of Public Services plans, directs, and supervises all aspects of the Public Services Department.  The Director ensures adequate planning and coordination for a broad range of public works functions, and establishes and administers departmental policies, procedures and regulations.  Provides technical expertise in a wide range of City projects and ensures that City projects are completed in accordance with applicable regulations and accepted practices.  Public service employees maintain Fire Fighter I/II and Medical First Response certification and the Director will be expected to obtain certification within a year of appointment.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, construction management or a related field with experience in public works management and supervision.  A Michigan CDL, S-4 Water license, and State of Michigan Storm Water Operators’ License are required.  Fire Fighter I/II and MFR certification required within a year of appointment.  Please review the job description for a full list of essential functions.

The City of Rockford is a full-service city of 6,100 residents chartered as a council-manager form of government.  While only a short drive to urban amenities and a vigorous labor market, Rockford is a self-contained preferred destination of its own.  A unique, fully occupied downtown and a nationally recognized school system makes Rockford a family-friendly small town.

A 2021-2022 General Fund Budget of $4.7 Million and Enterprise Funds of another $6 Million support 40 full and part time employees who function in an interdependent and supportive culture.

The City of Rockford offers a competitive fringe benefit package including a MERS Hybrid retirement, medical insurance plan and City provided life insurance and long-term disability.  Starting salary range is $83,000-$95,000 depending on qualifications.
