Early Morning Pursuit of Stolen VehiclesKent County has continued to see vehicles broken into and stolen this year. At 3:15 AM the KCSO south team was conducting a proactive patrol near 60th & Kalamazoo Ave due to recent thefts from vehicles. Deputies observed three vehicles enter into the Crossings Apartments at a high rate of speed. These vehicles also matched descriptions of recently stolen vehicles.More units were called in and a perimeter was set up around the complex. A KCSO Sergeant came upon three vehicles in the parking lot and then a fourth as it passed by him as the pursuit began. An assisting unit waited down the road and was able to deploy spike strips, hitting three of the four vehicles. The vehicles split up and one was pursued as it traveled northbound on Kalamazoo Ave. This vehicle continued to flee until it lost control and crashed at Kalamazoo Ave and 28th St. One 14-year-old and one 15-year-old Kentwood teenage boy exited the vehicle, were evaluated by medical staff, and subsequently taken into custody. With the assistance of the Kentwood Police Department and the Grand Rapids Police Department, two of the other vehicles were found abandoned and recovered. A white Ford Fusion is still outstanding and is potentially stolen. The KCSO reminds the public to be vigilant in locking their vehicle doors and removing valuables. Also, just this morning, two vehicles were stolen from the same driveway in Cannon Township along Peach Tree Ave NE. Credit cards were being used at area stores. This investigation and the earlier pursuit are still being actively worked on by investigators. If you have information that could help to move the investigation forward, please call the KCSO at 616-632-6125, or call Silent Observer at 616-774-2345 to report information safely and anonymously.
