LANSING, Mich. - Senator Mark Huizenga, a Republican from Walker, has issued a statement criticizing the governor's proposed budget presentation. In his statement, Huizenga expresses concern over the governor's plan, which he believes recklessly spends taxpayer money on wasteful spending while imposing higher taxes on Michigan families.

Huizenga argues that if families are expected to balance their budgets responsibly, the government should be held to the same standard. He states, "If her proposed plan was an $80,000-per-year family budget, she'd be trying to spend all but $7 on more reckless spending. That's not responsible, and that's not helpful to the taxpayers who actually have to pay the bills."

The senator points out that just two years ago, under bipartisan control, the state had a record $9 billion surplus. However, he notes that the state would now be running a deficit if it weren't for the $700 million income tax increase imposed on Michiganders by the Democrats. Huizenga expresses his willingness to work with colleagues from both sides of the aisle to solve problems for the community, but he believes the governor's plan fails to address the struggles faced by Michigan families dealing with inflation and higher costs of living.

Furthermore, Huizenga criticizes the budget proposal for neglecting important areas of investment. He claims that the plan does nothing to improve the state's roads, pay off debt, save for emergencies, or spend taxpayers' money wisely.
