Thomas McGettigan is seeking the Republican nomination to serve as a Milan Township Trustee for a four-year term. The primary election will be held on August 6.

According to Monroe County's primary candidate list, McGettigan is facing Nick Straub and Shelby Tulk in the GOP primary. Voters may choose up to two candidates.

The Monroe News reported in April 2023, McGettigan was elected to serve as a Summerfield Township Trustee in the late 1990s. In the late 2000s, he was appointed to the Milan Area Fire Department Executive Board as a member at large.

According to his LinkedIn page, McGettigan's professional background includes time spent working as a customer service manager for Federated Group. He subsequently ran his own business, New West Screenprint for over seven years, and during this time, he also began working as a USPS letter carrier, a job he had for close to a decade. While he was still working for the USPS, he started another business, Inky T's & Signs, in January 1991. In addition to running Inky T's, McGettigan is also the owner of Milan Embroidery & Screen Printing, which he launched in June 2020.

McGettigan also served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Summerfield Township Fire Department from January 1994 to January 1999.

The April 2023 Monroe News article quoted McGettigan as saying, that he is "very conservative and a strong property-rights supporter."

In a press release, Private Property Rights PAC — a political action committee whose "mission is to safeguard and promote the ownership and control of private property" — endorsed McGettigan, stating that he "has demonstrated a profound commitment to the principles of property rights and governance that respect the rights of individual property owners" and praising his stance against government overreach.

Private Property Rights PAC Senior Adviser Madeline Morris expressed confidence in McGettigan's commitment to private property rights and government transparency and accountability, predicting that he "will help protect the foundational rights that are vital to personal freedom and economic stability" in Milan Township.

The Milan Township Board comprises two trustees.

According to the Michigan Townships Association, township trustees act as township legislators and are required to vote on all issues. They are also responsible for the fiduciary health of the township and for carrying out any other duties assigned by the township board. Trustees are elected to four-year terms.
