KENT DISTRICT LIBRARY: Patron story: Touch a Truck program saves the day!

Kent District Library issued the following announcement on Sept. 13.

Carrie, a patron at our Nelson Township/Sand Lake Branch, shares how KDL's Touch a Truck program positively impacted their family.

Thank you so much for hosting the Touch-a-Truck program. My four boys love to attend every year and they always have a great time.  This year one of their favorite vehicles was the ambulance. They were able to go inside and learn all about the equipment and how it’s used. The EMT even let them try on the blood pressure cuff and pulse-ox meter to see how they work. They had so much fun trying on these devices and checking their statistics on the screens.

A few days after this event, one of my youngest, Kamdyn, had to go to the Urgent Care Center. For a trip that would normally be full of anxiety and tears, he actually wanted to go! And as the nurse pulled out the equipment to check his vitals, he was able to tell her what they were and how they worked. It made the visit so much more relaxed. His twin was even asking when he could go!

So thank you again for hosting such a wonderful event that carries over into our lives far beyond just a fun afternoon!
