Kent County Sheriff’s Deputy Kenyatta Weaver, Jr., recently resigned his position with the department after his personal vehicle was found left behind at the scene of a crash.

It was the second controversial incident surrounding Weaver in the past year, according to reporting by WoodTV. He was also involved in an off-duty fight last year where he pulled a firearm, then lied about the incident to investigators.

“Officer integrity is our No. 1 priority, and we take instances like this very seriously,” Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young told WoodTV about the most recent incident.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at 12:35 a.m. on July 23 at Cottage Grove Street and Jefferson Avenue Southeast. Weaver’s vehicle appeared to have crashed into a traffic sign.

While Weaver told investigators that someone else was driving his vehicle, LaJoye-Young has placed Weaver on paid suspension and told WoodTV that there were concerns over inconsistent statements that he made about the incident.
