Northview Public Schools issued the following announcement on Jan 13.
Over the past two weeks, roughly thirty 7th and 8th grade band students have been participating in our Jazz Exploration J-Term. We’ve had the opportunity to learn about jazz history, style, and musicians… all while giving it a shot ourselves!
With a couple snowdays thrown into the mix, we played a lot of rhythm and improvisation games on our instruments and learned a tune. We also had the opportunity to go to the high school and work with the HS Jazz Band and Mr. Wells.
We finished our term out today with a virtual clinic with a jazz combo from Hope College. The combo played several tunes for us and we had meaningful discussions about jazz and pursuing music in college and as a career.
