Cedar Springs Public Schools issued the following announcement on Jan 18.
Public schools in Michigan are required by law to have at least 180 days of instruction and 1,098 hours of instruction for the 2021/22 school year.
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) allows districts to close schools up to six (6) times per year for factors beyond our control that can impact our ability to follow our planned calendar and daily schedule. As of today, we have canceled school six (6) times due to circumstances beyond our control. We also had three (3) early release days in August due to excessive heat.
We are now below our required number of hours. In response, Cedar Springs Public Schools will be adding three (3) minutes of instruction to the end of each day starting January 24, 2022. The new schedules will be as follows:
Elementary Schools
School Day: 8:55 a.m. - 3:38 p.m.
Half Day: 8:55 a.m. - 12:38 p.m.
Red Hawk Elementary
School Day: 7:30 a.m. - 2:13 p.m.
Half Day: 7:30 a.m. - 10:43 a.m.
Cedar Springs Middle School
School Day: 7:25 a.m. - 2:08 p.m.
Half Day: 7:25 a.m. - 10:38 a.m.
Cedar Springs High School
School Day: 7:38 a.m. - 2:21 p.m.
Half Day: 7:38 a.m. - 10:51 a.m.
This small change will keep us compliant with the required days and hours of instruction from MDE. Should you have any questions, please contact our district office by e-mailing cspstogether@csredhawks.org or calling 616-696-1204.
