So your dogs aggressive...now what?Assemble your team! When working with your pups behaviors, you'll want a well rounded group of skilled professionals to be working on the case. Let's build a team!
1. The Veterinarian. No team is ever complete without an amazing vet to look for underlying medical issues. Don't forget, they are also skilled in Canine psychology and can provide medicine to appropriately aid your dog.
2. The trainer. A trainer with a background in behavioral therapy with years of experience with working with aggression. This part of your team will be giving you and your pup the skills to alter the behavior and turn it into a positive response.
3. The groomer. Often overlooked, but vital to the overall success of your dog, in many cases a groomer will be able to assist in desensitization with your pup. In some cases a groomer can often spot areas on your dogs that can cause irritation (rashes, boils ect...) that can drive the behavior.
4. The boarding/daycare facility/dog walkers. A well run daycare with experience have staff to monitor situations and watch for signs for reactivity. This will help ensure you can stay ahead of a problem and get it corrected before it gets out of hand.
5. Arguably the most important. You! You are the team leader that manages everything for your pup. Without you, the team doesn't exist and the success of your pups outlook is in peril. You also stand as the support structure for your pup to guide them through this.
So this is your team!#aggressionawarenessmonth
